Tom Tanredo (Racist) Catching Up To Hickenlooper In Colorado’s Governor Race

Republicans are abandoning Dan Maes in droves and joining their Teabagging brethren in supporting of the craziest (literally) people running for any office: Tom Tancredo.

Hickenlooper has stalled out at ~46% of potential voters while Tancredo is sucking up most of Maes’ support.  Maes is the “official” Republican nominee.  Tancredo joined the race late in the cycle, saying that Maes wasn’t loony “conservative” enough to run as a Republican.

For what it’s worth, I’ve said for months that Hickenlooper needed to establish him identity so that Coloradans didn’t have a choice between a “Conservative”, a Teabagger and a wanna-be Conservative.  Given those non-choices, the Teabaggers are sure to convince enough Republicans to vote for one of their nutty candidates.  I don’t want a Gov. Tancredo, but Hickenlooper has to give voters solid reasons to vote for him.  If he doesn’t, we’ll be stuck with a psycho running Colorado for four years.

Hickenlooper Continues Business-Worship Trend

John Hickenlooper, Denver’s current mayor and candidate for Colorado’s 2010 Governor race, is continuing his bid to show Coloradans who can worship the most at the feet of the business community: himself or Con candidate Scott McInnis. Coloradans are looking for a choice, Mayor. If you try to paint yourself as Republican-lite, Coloradans will choose the true Republican.

What has raised my ire today? Another Denver Post article detailing the mayor’s words at a Chamber of Commerce meeting yesterday. According to the mayor, Colorado is now known as an anti-business state, Ritter sided with “overboard” environmentalists and raising taxes in a recession is “crazy”.

At this point, Hick is going to have to work very, very hard to secure my vote this November. I don’t want a person with a “D” after their name in the Governor’s mansion governing like he wants to be a Con.

Hickenlooper’s First Energy Stance = Con-Lite

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, now running to be the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, made his intentions regarding drilling on Colorado’s West Slope known about a week ago.  His statement doesn’t spark any confidence that he’ll deliver messages in ways that voters will respond.  In fact, it’s an early signal that the message Massachusetts voters sent have yet to be heard in this part of the country (timing of the two events notwithstanding).  If Hick wants to be the next Governor of Colorado, he has a steep learning curve ahead of him.

CO Democratic Party Power Struggles

News this week that CO Gov. Bill Ritter would not run for re-election in 2010 has, of course, sent the two major parties scrambling.  The announcement was given with no notice to other officials or the party members themselves.  After the announcement, the way in which potential Democratic replacements have been offered up and discussed by the “Serious People” nagged at me.  I want to explore these developments with the removal of a state Representative from a committee vice-chairmanship and trends emanating from the Obama White House.
